Oversee the management and use of medication error information in assigned pharmacy sections. Review internal error reports and utilizes information from external reporting programs (e.g. ISMP Medical Safety, MOH and Saudi FDA).
Manage medication-error reporting, review, investigation to determine root cause and data entry into database in collaboration with area manager. Analyze data and determine trends for process improvement, develop and required measures to eliminate the likelihood of occurrence or re occurrence of errors
Facilitate changes needed to meet JCIA, MOG and other standards of international accreditation organization
Participate in all hospital committees related to medication safety and medication adverse occurrences, and assist in setting annual goals for medication safety improvement
Assist the Director of Pharmaceutical Care in organizing and administering the Hospital Pharmacy programs. Ensure the Director of Pharmaceutical Care is informed of all matters relating to Pharmaceutical Care and its activities
Direct, administer and coordinate the pharmacy functions in his designated areas; supervisre key personnel to assure completion of work assignments, personnel management and adherence to policies and procedures
Provide guidance and direction for area managers and staff in carrying out their responsibilities
Serve as Coordinator of Formulary Management Committee
Assure the effective and efficient provision of pharmaceutical care for the patients of assigned specialty area.
Responsible for dissemination, interpretation and practice of departmental and hospital policies, procedures and regulations and information
Review departmental operations for effectiveness with the use of computer print-outs for labor distribution and productively analysis
Direct, assist and resolve problems encountered by area managers, in assigned pharmacy sections in the development of objectives, physical facility, equipment and supply needs, personnel organization structure, work distribution and operational processes
Responsible for the annual budget preparation after consulting with area managers as needed; monitor budget of assigned pharmacy sections during fiscal year
Interview, select, hire, train senior pharmacy staff and evaluate pharmacists, technicians and other support personnel in the performance of duties.
Assure compliance with quality assurance standards, licensing requirements, pharmacy and MOH laws and regulations; take remedial action to resolve or improve deficient operational conditions or problems
Perform clinical pharmacy functions as required, to include providing drug information to patients and other health care providers
Serve on an participates in activities of the Formulary Management Committee, Medication Use Sub Committee, Formulary Management Subcommittees, and/or other Hospital/Medical Staff Committees as assigned
Maintain pharmacy licenses, security and control drug accountability
Develop and update departmental policies and procedures. Assure appropriate drug use and distribution throughout King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre
Develop quality improvement and competency assessment indicators
Work with the medical staff, nursing and other health care professionals to resolve drug-related problems
Participate in hospital and departmental quality improvement activities through the development of foals and action plans to further the corporate mission of quality health care. Participate in activities of quality improvement teams when requested. Monitor assigned quality improvement indicators of individual or departmental performance
Assure the appropriateness of a medication order, including age-related factors, before preparing or permitting the distribution of the first dose
Follow all Hospital related policies and procedures
Participate in self and other’s education, training and development as applicable
Perform any other related duties as assigned
Qualifications Required:
Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or related disciplines after completion of bachelor degree in pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy
Experience Required:
Eight (8) years of successful experience in a managerial position in a Hospital pharmacy of comparable size.
Must possess solid experience in the development of programs focused on achieving positive outcomes in the use of medications
A strong background in clinical pharmacy practice coupled with pharmacy operations responsibilities is mandatory
A general or specialized pharmacy residency or equivalent experience in an integrated health system is mandatory
