Position Summary Vidant Health is conducting a national search for a Genetic Counselor for our Oncology Service Line in Greenville, NC. The Genetic Counselor provides detailed cancer risk assessment and genetic counseling to adult patients/families and has knowledge of cancer risk assessment tools including BRACA PRO, Penn II, the Claus Model, the Gail Model, the IBIS Model and other models. The Genetic Counselor communicates results of genetic testing to patients and outside referring physicians and works in conjunction with physicians to develop a care plan, or makes appropriate referrals to medical, surgical, gyn oncology, and others as needed. Special Projects: Gathers and assembles data for clinical research purposes and to measure outcomes. Publishes and presents clinical genetics information by gathering and summarizing data to contribute to genetics literature. Coordinates and provides information for various special projects for the clinic manager or equivalent. Identifies and implements tests and procedures that are the most cost-effective and beneficial for the practice setting and to minimize financial toxicity to patient. Works with Laboratory Services to evaluate genetic testing lab tests. Minimum Requirements
  • Masters degree in Genetic Counseling is required.
  • Genetics Counselor license in the state of North Carolina is required.
  • Eligible within 1 year of employment, or Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABGC / ABMG).
  • No substitutions
  • Less than 1 year experience in Genetic Counseling internship is required.
  • Other academic institutions or pharmaceutical companies as genetics counselor is preferred.
