As an Intern, you will work both with a team, and independently, to undertake a range of routine and investigative analyses. There may also be opportunities to assist in the development of new, bespoke analytical methods. You will also develop expertise in a range of analytical methods and laboratory equipment such as HPLC, IC, HunterLab Colourimeter, and UV-Vis spectroscopy.

Pharmaceutical Microbiology Internship

The Pharmaceutical Microbiology team supports the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries with a wide range of microbiological tests. Working to current GMP standards, the laboratory undertakes a number of pharmacopeial testing. As an intern in this laboratory, you will gain technical experience in using aseptic technics to perform tests like Microbial Limits test and Bioburden test. In addition, you will develop relevant technical skills by being part of a team that performs a range of microbiological analyses like Endotoxin analysis, Preservative Efficacy test, Disinfection test, and Bacterial identification.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Internship

The Pharmaceutical chemistry team performs a range of routine and specialised analyses for a variety of pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. You will learn to work to GMP standards in our MHRA and FDA accredited laboratory, to perform routine testing of pharmaceutical raw materials against the pharmacopoeia and client methods. In addition you will develop expertise in a range of analytical methods and operation of laboratory equipment. You will be required to manage your time effectively in this high throughput environment.

Microscopy Internship

The Microscopy group carries out investigative analysis to support our foreign body identification and product contamination services. They also carry out routine and bespoke pharmacopoeia testing. An intern in this role would be expected to develop expertise in analytical techniques including light microscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray microanalysis and microfluorescence.

Bioinformatics Internship

The DNA and Protein laboratory is developing a new area of analysis using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). NGS would be an extension of the DNA analysis portfolio we are carrying on in the lab. As an intern you will develop expertise in using your bioinformatics skills to develop databases and workflows to analyse high-throughput data generated from the sequencing analysis. The NGS bioinformatics tools you will learn to develop will include de novo assembly, SNPs and whole genome MLST on small genomes. In addition you will gain technical experience in preparing NGS libraries and running sequencing analysis, and there are potential opportunities to gain expertise in a range of different DNA-based analytical methods.
