Responsibilities

  • Work with the executive team and the Board to establish goals and strategies for business development and drive BD performance
  • Lead and execute strategically significant transactions (in and out-licensing, acquisitions, partnerships) and manage alliances
  • Consistently leverage extensive external network of Biotech CEOs, pharmaceutical company contacts, venture capitalists, investment bankers and industry thought leaders to enhance access to innovation and generate new business development ideas
  • Serve as a business spokesperson to articulate a compelling company business strategy and vision with both external and internal stakeholders
  • Serve as a key strategy business leader to assess and enable successful capital raise and/or non-dilutive financing
  • Provide a strategic partnership for the planning, design, development, and implementation in conjunction with commercial strategies and tactics for expansion(s)
  • Continuously perform necessary business needs analyses in specifying and targeting department goals in alignment with commercial direction and imperatives
  • In partnership with Commercial contribute operating budget and forecast for out/in-licensing partnerships and ensure spending is kept within agreed upon budget and within company guidelines
  • Develop opinion leaders to build business in line with the international growth strategy
  • Ensure alignment with US commercial team and ensure shared vision translating strategy and tactics into actionable behavior by the commercial team
  • Provide the strategic analysis of international markets, as well as specific pricing recommendations and their potential implications on Portola
